EASTERN VALLEY WAY INLET WETLANDS + PUBLIC REALM

Belconnen, Canberra, ACT
2009-2013
ACT Government

The introduction of new wetlands into Lake Ginninderra filters stormwater, preventing sediments and pollutants entering the lake, and provides new ecological habitats and recreation pockets that attract new activities, re-establishing the critical relationship between people – habitat – public ownership. One of these pockets is the Belconnen Skate Park, where new forms and experiences focused on street and competition skating are introduced.

The Eastern Valley Way public realm together with the Belco Skate Park is an important recreational destination as well as a pedestrian ‘through space’ between the University of Canberra and Belconnen Mall, and for joggers and walkers using the Lake Ginninderra circuit.
