Adelaide Oval Redevelopment

Adelaide, SA
The Adelaide Oval redevelopment transformed one of Australia’s most iconic sports venues into a world-class, multi-purpose stadium while preserving its parkland setting and cultural heritage. The landscape design seamlessly integrates the new stadium infrastructure into the broader Riverbank precinct, creating a legible and connected public realm that enhances the visitor experience. A network of generous plazas, green spaces, and pedestrian promenades reinforces Adelaide Oval’s role as a civic destination. The landscape responds to the historic context and surrounding parklands, supporting large event crowds while maintaining everyday amenity and accessibility.

Permeable paving, supplied by Adbri, was installed to support stormwater infiltration and reduce surface runoff. This sustainable approach contributed to the project's environmental performance and offered a robust, visually cohesive surface treatment that enhances pedestrian flow and legibility throughout the precinct.

The project has received numerous accolades, including the 2015 National Architecture Award for Public Architecture and the Colorbond Award for Steel Architecture, reflecting the strength of a collaborative design process across architecture, landscape, and engineering disciplines.
