Thorndon Park Redevelopment

Paradise, SA
Thorndon Park Reservoir was Adelaide’s first water supply reservoir. Redevelopment of this open space as a recreation park retained the remaining industrial infrastructure and introduced new forms, spaces and activities in a new post-industrial landscape. | The project promotes healthy living and community well-being by providing recreation opportunities for all ages within an inclusive, accessible environment. A key feature is the playspace, which is thoughtfully integrated into the wider reserve, enhancing the overall amenity and encouraging active lifestyles and social connection across generations. This project delivers an appropriate design response to a complex and multifunctional recreational area. The issues of public safety and water quality have been successfully addressed through the use of the water recirculation system and the landscape treatment to the water’s edge.
